ICE COMBO OF PSYCHO BITCHES & LATE NIGHT LAUGHTERS LEAD ICE TO EASY WEDNESDAY VICTORY
ICE has dominated the first three Wednesdays of the new season thanks to a rather unique combination of gritty violent dramas and late night sitcoms which is very unique because the dramas start the night while the comedies close and it's usually the exact opposite in most comedy-drama lineups on NITRO Television. ICE's foray into this type of scheduling was to make sure The Wrong Students aired in an earlier timeslot with a mate that can air early and support it while ICE could develop an adult comedy lineup that would be separate of their Friday comedies.
Originally before their old boss Jessica Lowndes left the network they were going to build a lineup around Actors and some other comedies like Angry Landlords and Bastard Kids but they decided to cancel Actors when Jessica Lowndes wasn't going to comeback and lead that comedy so they decided to bring Dustin Diamond's Saved By the Bell comedy The Adult Years over from ROD to ICE which left a large hole in the now ROD Wednesday comedy lineup to start this season and decided to bring in The Adult Years which led Paige Van Buren and new Comedy Coordinator Mia Serafino to want to put together a late night adult comedy lineup that adult viewers in Toronto could watch the tapings at Paramount Hall live on Wednesday nights and enjoy some drinks. Now the late night comedy lineup was born and so far the ratings results are good as Bastard Kids joined the lineup this week and now they just wait on Strawberry and Kay's reboot update of Four's Company to complete the lineup two weeks from now.
Teen Angels last season earned its renewal stripes based on how well it was able to lead-off the Thursday lineup back in the fall of 2013 and now this season with a new cast it's doing the same for Wednesdays giving great lead-in support for The Wrong Students which retained most of its audience from last week's huge premiere to stay over 100 million viewers. The Psycho Bitch combo of Teen Angels and The Wrong Students looks pretty formidable as they could make it difficult on the horror block that debuts on NBC this Halloween. Dasha Dereviankina who had a huge comeback day on Team ICE the day before is becoming a huge star right before our eyes on The Wrong Students as people just can't stop talking about how vicious she is on this show.
What's unique about the Wednesday lineup for ICE is how they transition from drama to comedy like we mentioned before as viewers who decided to keep their TVs on channel 7 go from being scared shitless of Detroit's homicidal teenagers to good ole laughs on The Adult Years and it's a huge responsibility for the Saved By the Bell comedy and so far it's getting it done right now as retention for The Adult Years out of The Wrong Students was a whopping 93.5% which insane that means that most Wrong Students viewers kept their televisions locked into comedies so that means The Adult Years is the best comedy to air after a crime drama like that for ICE.
Everybody's expecting all of the new stars to be the rookies that were apart of this past draft but people are forgetting that we get some veterans who elevate their game and become new stars in NITRO as well and it looks like Alyssa Lynch could be one of those veterans as Alyssa had a great day on Team ICE yesterday and she is a major part of the new Saved By the Bell franchise. She's definitely one to keep an eye on right now.
Ex-East York Secondary Academy student Lindsey Visser poses for a photoshoot in home country of South Africa in June 2018
TAHJ MOWRY GETS SOME HELP FROM A ROOKIE THIS SEASON
Tahj Mowry looks like he's gonna keep his spot as the top male actor in NITRO as he helps lead the hit morning radio/podcast talk show Tahj & Arielle AM with Arielle Kebbel, Romeo Miller, and rookie Jessica Clements then a couple of times a week he hosts the #1 program on all of NITRO Television in the New Girls in Town Pageant then on the acting side he stars in the renewed comedy Bastard Kids which was a hit in its first season and started its second season on Wednesday night. The thing about Bastard Kids is that the comedy was in a little bit of trouble this season after losing two cast members Lyndsy Fonseca who left NITRO after last season and David Henrie who went to NBC but 3rd round draft pick Lindsey Visser may have just saved the show as she comes immediately as a crowd favorite based on the live audience at Paramount Hall on Wednesday night and Bastard Kids which aired two episodes this week both rated over 100 million viewers giving Lily Collins' hit comedy Angry Landlords a great lead-in this week whereas last week it had to grow off of a documentary special.
Tahj Mowry talked about Lindsey Visser potentially being a new star as he loves the way she works on the show with him so we'll keep an eye on Lindsey and Alyssa in both capacities.
ICE is excelling right with their draft picks even though they're unfortunately creating all kinds of problems outside of NITRO on the criminal side.
ROD came in 2nd place over NBC as they made a few adjustments which is where Lucy Hale is starting to look pretty good at she's not settling for bad ratings as she just cancelled a new comedy earlier today.
ROD doubled up on The Nanny Diaries again and it stayed consistent in a competitive timeslot beating out Lucy's horror drama Aria. ROD right now is left with a huge hole after The Nanny Diaries after losing The Adult Years as we mentioned before and flopping out with Single at Fifty last week. ROD will have to wait until their new comedies are developed but a rerun of Dallas Cowgirls Undercover was a marked improvement as Koy Jung got a way better lead-in to lift The L.A. over 60 million viewers. Right now Koy Jung Variety Show which airs on a new night after debuting on Friday last week is proving to be a surprising hit for them as nobody knew how it would perform so the Koy Jung pick in the draft is working for ROD.
NBC came in last place but it wasn't too bad of a night for them ratings wise as their Wednesday ratings are doing slightly better than expected. Aria is lifting the lineup pretty well leading off but needs some help in that tough timeslot against Teen Angels and Karlie Kloss.
Madison Beer made her much anticipated acting debut and the reviews are out on her and they were mixed at best unlike Lindsey Visser on Bastards Kids as some people gave her the Strawberry Shields treatment from last season saying she couldn't act and some people liked her and thinks she's got potential. Either way The Waves had a solid premiere at 58 million viewers getting 88.5% retention behind Aria. Killer Love held up over 50 million viewers so their Wednesday lineup as it stands is doing much better than Mondays. Since NBC is going to have make room for Heather and Hospitality on Halloween one or two of these dramas can move over to Mondays probably to cleanup the mess on that night. It would be wise for NBC to wait until then to make the move because their Wednesday nights are solid for them.
Tomorrow night we have the TGIT block returning against another week of auditions for the ROD pageant competitions but there's a lot of pressure on Sam & Brian: Friends tomorrow to survive as a series. Self-Defense comes in for ICE as we'll see how this ROD pilot does tomorrow in an interesting 9pm hour on Thursday night.
