A roller derby bout is played in two 30 minute periods (60 minutes total) broken into jams as a single jam may last up to 2 minutes.
In each jam the two teams each put 5 players on the track: 1 Jammer, 3 Blockers, and 1 Pivot but only the Jammer is allowed to score the points.
The way a Jammer scores points by passing the opposing team's Blockers which will count for a maximum of 1 point of a pass per blocker so there could be a possibility of 5 points scored if you pass all five members of the opposing team.
Within those two minutes the Jammer will try to pass through the whole pack of five players as many times as possible within that period of time and those are how the points are accumulated.

MATCH THOUGHTS
It was the exact opposite for Team ICE tonight as they've become accustomed to having slow starts and coming from behind in their first two derbies of the season but this time they start fast and lose in the 2nd half.
Danielle Rose Russell was the story here as that ROD line got it done for Northern scoring 72 points in this derby as the experience from Tracy Kimmell made the huge difference.
Allison Shields' experience in the derbies was huge here as the NBC line grabbed 63 points but the NBC line was beaten by ICE quite a few times the difference was ROD's line in this one.
Kay and Strawberry Shields did their job against their sisters Allison and Terri as it got physical in this one but ICE used new lines this week which might've been the difference with the chemistry.
Allison Shields line was a little bit weak as ICE got most of their points against the NBC and Northern students lines but ICE did badly against that powerful ROD line.
Allison Shields was booed heavily in front of a rowdy Toronto crowd but she will take great pleasure in giving new Head Coach and former studiomate Jessica Stroup a loss in her debut as coach.
ICE still has 5 victories but now Northern has 1 victory as these evening contests continue to play out here.
