GAME THOUGHTS

Team ICE suffered their first loss of the season in football in crushing fashion giving up the game winning touchdown to Sunrise in an emotional result for both teams.

New Head Coach Paige Van Buren gets her first loss as Team ICE now goes 1-1 in football but wins the overall episode against their opponent Sunrise College Prep to go 2-0 this season but this football defeat will hurt.

Team ICE showed their youthful experience in this loss without their captain Kya Summers who was traded right before the game started and the team struggled the first three quarters of the game on both sides of the ball.

Kya Summers not being on the team really affected the performance of the team as they didn't really play well until the 4th quarter where Strawberry Shields led a miraculous comeback to take the lead deep in the 4th quarter.

Offense really struggled as Strawberry came back down to earth throwing the first two picks of her career and Audreyana Williams added in a fumble as well so the offense took a while to get warmed up.

The real bright spot for the offense was Penny Perchik who completed a huge comeback day grabbing 11 catches for 137 yards and added in a touchdown she was ballin' tonight for Team ICE.

Kay Shields had another good game but they covered her way better this week and Janet Moore had an impressive debut as she might be starting at tight end getting 8 catches for over 80 yards.

Audreyana Williams actually had a great game on the ground getting a touchdown but that fumble was a huge mistake earlier in the game for her.

Lisa Grantham was a factor in the offense too as she had a quiet game and all of that.

The defense was struggling in the passing game as the secondary game looked real bad tonight outside of Jesalyn Moe who continues to shutdown the receivers on her side of the field getting a pick in this one.

Without Kya Summers this defense completely collapsed as Angie Bonanni was getting burnt all night along with Nancy Nery, Antonella Marzilli, and Natasha Herbst. Neta Alchemist had to get used to her new position.

The good news for the defense was the front 7 looked great tonight starting with the defensive line where Jezebel James had a career-high 5 sacks and Lorenea Rape added in 3 sacks on the other side.

The defensive MVP was Jesse Anzalone as she had a huge game in her first career start getting 15 tackles, a huge pick for a touchdown, and 2 sacks on the quarterback as she was everywhere and looked impressive.

Jesse Anzalone and Bridget Satterlee will be a scary trio for years to come together in that linebacking core and Megan May Williams continues to impress here greatly as she added in 9 tackles.

Next week expect plenty of changes on defense without Kya Summers in the picture as Eva Adams came in the game late and really settled the defense down so she might start next week.

Dasha Dereviankina is expected to earn her way back into the starting lineup, Ivy Herbert may finally take care of that other corner spot, and there will be a real competition for other positions as well.

This was a negative result for ICE but they're a super young team and it's a lesson for them getting better in the future and these two teams may meet again in the playoffs or for the championship.

Quickspeed Davis continues to impress as she grabbed 9 catches for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns completing her impressive day as she might end up being the top teen athlete in the city of Norwood, New Brunswick.

Speaking of Quickspeed Davis you can expect to see her compete on Teen Athlete this Thursday night for the Norwood auditions.

ICE now has finished with 8 victories and just 2 losses on Sunrise to close out this night for the second episode of Team ICE now the girls rest up for the WFL this weekend and their next matchup back home in Toronto next Tuesday.

OUCH to ICE on losing Kya Summers!

They clearly weren't focused tonight until it was too late I wonder if this is a weakness?

The team had to be distracted by Kya's departure as that had to be really tough for the team to learn that right before the game I'm pretty sure most of those girls looked up to her and it showed as the secondary was terrible and the offense wasn't playing well until the 4th quarter. The way they played they deserved to lose and although ICE won the overall event against Norwood this probably feels more like a loss losing the football game because I know ICE wanted to improve from last year. You gotta be worried if the Kya loss carries over to next week as well.

The good news is that Penny Perchik absolutely balled today in every sport she was in and Jesse Anzalone had a very good debut they just gotta fill that other corner spot that's hurting them and the safeties without Kya was really a huge contributing factor.

ICE is a very young team so they'll learn from these losses and I bet the city of Norwood was really celebrating this win.

Yeah, this team might be affected by this for the next couple of weeks we could lose again next week.

There are bright spots though and Ivy Herbert will start at corner next week but we gotta figure out the safeties because without Kya Summers that will be a problem. We're going to open up the other linebacker spot too as Melissa Alonso might play defensive tackle next week as I gotta move Demi Alfonso back to the offensive line. Vika Bronova ain't gonna be able to play this season because she plays quarterback in the WFL I don't want her getting too banged up as the defensive line is such a physical position to play.

Penny Perchik gives me confidence that this receiving core will be okay and Janet Moore will likely get Joanna Halpin's spot as the first tight end.

Kya Summers is a huge miss I don't think you guys have anybody who can replace her right now maybe later in the season but your girls are too inexperienced.

I think you guys lose next week for sure don't see how you guys win without Kya.

While Kya Summers is very good I think ICE has plenty of talent to replace her at safety if you ask me some of these girls might be better than Kya. It all comes down to experience which is why ICE should use as many girls as possible to see who wins both jobs. I think Neta Alchemist is capable of replacing Kya the most because she was already a linebacker and is fast enough to play the position but it sounds like ICE wants to move Melissa Alonso to DT so that other linebacking position is wide open right now. I'm interested to see who fills these open spots on the defense but I think Ivy Herbert is capable of shutting down that other side of the defense.

ICE will probably continue to lose though but we'll see what happens for sure.

Kya is good but she wasn't the best player on this team on either side of the football. We got plenty of girls trying out for safety positions to replace her.

I'm interested to see how Neta grows into the position because either she stays there or she moves to the outside linebacker position. We'll play around with it though as actually, Jezebel James is moving to defensive tackle next week she's bigger than Melissa Alonso and I like Melissa's speed on the outside. I'm going to try that and see how that goes first.

Ivy Herbert will be just like Jesalyn Moe she might struggle a little bit especially in the beginning just due to the fact that they'll throw to her side of the field a lot more than Jesalyn's but she will shut things down eventually though.

We'll see next week what happens I think we'll get it together eventually even if we go on a losing streak right now.

According to Hall of Famer Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens, he says there's girls on that ICE roster who will be better than Kya Summers so I think you guys will be in great position there but it's just a question of who plays.

I think Neta gets one of the safety positions but I also believe a combo of Dasha and Eva might work too.

I like the switching of Jezebel James to DT and Melissa Alonso to outside at DE.

If Ivy Herbert is anything like Jesalyn Moe that will be scary especially if you guys continue to get to the quarterback.

ICE I was watching the Super Bowl last night and the New England Patriots play a 3-3-5 defense, have you ever thought about going to a 3-3-5 defense?

I was so happy to have Ed Reed come to our practice and teach the girls a thing or two. We're going to have Ray Lewis come out soon too and work with the linebackers.

Great question I think I might take a look at the 3-3-5 because I think if I just keep the three linebackers as is that might work perfectly but the thing I'll have to figure out for real is how I'll construct the safety because I could have Dasha, Eva, and Neta all in the secondary with Jesalyn and Ivy.

Yeah, that was a major visit it lets you know where your team is at and Ray Lewis will take it to the next level.

I think it's more interesting now than it was when the season started because you guys have three fast solid linebackers and a secondary that might benefit from having 5 players out there instead of just the usual 4.

I'm going to have Ray Lewis come sometime before November like in October so I know where the team is at skill level wise.

I'm really considering it now because my linebackers cover so much ground and I think my secondary needs help I really want Dasha, Eva, and Neta in the middle of the field at the same-time.
