SBC WINS THEIR VERY FIRST NIGHT OF THE SEASON
Its been a long but exciting day in NITRO with several changes happening as RTN leaves NITRO forever on Saturday. The headline this Saturday is that NITRO goes back to three networks taking out a fourth network of competition and SBC picks up their first win of the season which means they picked up 4 points to add to their total of 5 points so they come into tomorrow trailing ROD by just 3 points. ICE came in second place picking up two extra points on ROD to lead all networks with 11 points on the season in just 4 nights of action.
Saturday was a historical night because it was the first night of the newly named Xtina Grimmie Hour on SBC-TV, Vegas Showgirls made its series premiere, and the WFL kicked off their third season in NITRO.
CARPENTERS HOUR GREAT CHRISTINA GRIMMIE NAME AND MEMORY ARE HONORED
We'll start out with SBC at the top here as their purchase acquisition of both The Xtina Grimmie Hour and WFL have paid off for them in one night helping the network achieve a historical evening of averaging a network best 117.30 million viewers and every single program averaged over 100 million viewers as well which is the first time that happened in network history.
Xtina Grimmie Hour previously named The Carpenters Hour Juniors last season aired on ROD to great and the numbers rose a little bit for the premiere as Xtina Grimmie Hour grabbed 118.27 million viewers to help SBC dominate those first two slots of the night with ease. Auditions started in Toronto where Carpenters Hour season 3 contestant Christina Grimmie was honored and celebrated after her unfortunate death back in June 2016 as the series decided to honor her by renaming the show in her honor just like they originally did with The Carpenters Hour which was named after Karen Carpenter who past away on us way back in 1983.
Xtina Grimmie Hour looks like it will be a pretty formidable opponent to go against all season long just like Junior Beauty Pageant for ROD.
SBC had a very special night as they had the pleasure with their Sunday Night Football package to help launch the newest WFL season which is a season stacked full of new NITRO stars from that 2016 draft. It was a special late night doubleheader starting with the new Melbourne franchise taking on the New Zealand Kiwis down under in Auckland. ICE Starlets Luna Graaf and Georgia Fowler who known for their swimming helped give the Kiwis a thrilling 28-27 win over their new Melbourne Victorians rivals to the west as Georgia Fowler who plays quarterback for the team threw a game winning touchdown at the buzzer to Luna Graaf to help open up a thrilling new season of action. The Tokyo Suns followed up hosting the Hong Kong Dragons winning 38-13 as Irene Ko Park helped lead that charge.
Both WFL games drew over 100 million viewers for SBC as the New Zealand game drew 130 million viewers which means tomorrow's action should rate pretty well for the league.
In second place was ICE as their night started out shaky as they aired their first sub-40 million viewing program of the season with RTN's last parting gift to ICE Cherry Street Boarding School which had a solid premiere on Thursday but limped without Janit O'Day in front of it as it grabbed 38 million viewers which might be cancellation worthy for ICE. Reps for ICE told us that they pulled their rookies after hearing about RTN's decision to leave NITRO as they have extreme desires to cancel it now. Alden Steimle who plays for the Melbourne WFL franchise wasn't going to be in the episode anyways since she had her game tonight overseas down in Auckland. The decision to pull was heard about on social media and viewers seem to not have a care to tune in for it. ICE may decide to cancel it and alter their schedule as Fugitive at 17 could move over to ICE and fill that slot but not sure what fills Saturdays at 8pm for them though.
Things did get better as a WFL pregame special got the ratings back in normal ICE range and ultimately Vegas Showgirls didn't have to suffer greatly for it as auditions down in Atlanta got up to 109.1 million viewers for the huge premiere so the show had a lot of interests regardless of its lead-in and stood up tall to WFL competition. The late night Vegas Showgirls did pretty well also as the premiere of Vegas Showgirls After Dark did 70 million viewers after a simulcast telecast of SBC's WFL game between Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Mackenzie Ziegler led the auditioners up in Toronto tonight for The Xtina Grimmie Hour while down in Atlanta we had Jazz auditioning down there.
ROD brought up the rear in third place as they had a slow night getting ready for Saturday Night Football next week but late night was where their action was as Australian Nights grew out of Wheel Fortune Saturdays by 9 million viewers getting up to 53 million viewers in front of the huge premiere of Sheila Carter which returned for the first time since November 2013 on NITRO Television and although it didn't get anywhere near its series-high it grabbed 82 million viewers in late night on Saturday against WFL competition. The lead-in could be problem here as it has to grow so much but the audience watching that late proved the show has a lot of viewers. ROD's Porn Hour season premiere was solid at 63 million viewers.
SBC owned the night from start to finish but Vegas Showgirls was also solid as well.
Tomorrow is all about the WFL but in primetime going against the Toronto Icegals on Sunday Night Football will be New Girls in Town Pageant second string of auditions in Toronto and the series premiere of the newest NITRO draft competition Teen Athlete for ICE. ROD will have the return of Eight Is Enough, network premiere of Baywatch, and Pretty Thieves with some late night WFL action. It should be an exciting first Sunday of the season here.
