STAYING ALIVE & SELF-DEFENSE SWITCH SPOTS
New ICE Phederation CEO Paige Van Buren has called her first audible for her network and the season hasn't even begun just yet as Paige Van Buren has switched new dramas "Staying Alive" and "Self-Defense" timeslots with each other. Staying Alive goes from being a primetime drama that was going to air on Thursdays at 9pm before Janit O'Day to the daytime lineup as an afternoon soap opera airing weekdays at 3pm before Youthful Daydreamers while Self-Defense goes from that same positioning in the daytime to primetime on Thursdays. Both dramas were originally produced and written to be in the positions they're both in now rather than the other way around. Paige Van Buren says that figuring out Self-Defense's position on the network is what made the original move happen and Staying Alive's vulnerable state in primetime is what made this decision happen.
"Self-Defense" which was originally a ROD pilot before ICE bought the rights to it way back in 2013 will now go back to primetime and will be changed creatively to being a nighttime drama. It will also be changed into being more of a procedural based crime thriller as the new premise focuses on a group of women who were harmed in some way in their lives by either men or women physically and they all take action by joining a class with one of the best senseis on the west coast. Through their training and improvement in defending themselves, they seek to get back at those who did them wrong or others who are in trouble.
Self-Defense will now be taken over by new showrunners Eriq La Salle from "ER" and "Chicago PD" fame and joining him will be Gage Golightly in her second drama project as she also is the co-creator of the new "Tomb Raider" series on Saturday mornings and Gage Golightly also produces last year's primetime hit comedy "Young Girls" as well. Right now draft picks Lorenea Rape and Demi Alfonso is both set to star in the project with more names being attached to the cast as we speak. With these sweeping changes, Self-Defense will be reshot starting on Thursday and be ready for its series premiere in 10 days on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
"Staying Alive" which was a brand new ICE pilot was originally set for to premiere in primetime but now Paige Van Buren has called an audible on it to make it a daytime vehicle for Strawberry Shields to star in for the network. Staying Alive will be changed from a primetime drama to a live taped daytime soap opera. The premise remains the same as we know it's based on the 1983 hit film "Staying Alive" comes the television adaption about young New Yorkers who look to advance their dance career on the professional level. On that road to stardom in their profession comes a bunch of road bumps that keeps the journey impossible to hit at times. New Daytime President Ashley Benson believes that this story will serve as a very interesting story that many people can relate to on a daily basis in their own personal struggles in their lives. The young cast also makes it more appealing to the viewers that will tune in to watch Youthful Daydreamers behind it. Originally ICE had Star 80 in this position before NITRO was suspended back in 2013 which followed models in Vancouver living dangerous lives but ICE feels like a story like this can have more longevity in its run and turn Strawberry Shields into an even bigger star than she already is as well. Paige Van Buren felt like had Staying Alive been left on in primetime it would struggle to find an audience and fail on them and ultimately be canceled so they're trying to save it now before it even airs. Staying Alive will be overseen by Bryton McClure who is behind the success of "All My Children" and "Another World's" revived turnarounds as daytime serials. Staying Alive will now debut on Monday, September 17, 2018, at 3pm on ICE channel 7.
LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON SOAPS WILL START A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER
New ICE Phederation Daytime President Ashley Benson announces today that the planned premieres of the ICE daytime soap operas will be suspended for a couple of days due to the audible change made by Paige Van Buren to remove Self-Defense from the lineup and add in Staying Alive. This means that the soaps will now start their new seasons on Friday, September 7, 2018, and that Wednesday and Thursday's schedules will be changed around as well.
Wednesday's schedule will now feature a moved up premiere of Women's Sports Club the brand ICE's Wide World of Sports pregame show for their sports coverage which is said to be a female version of Inside the NBA on TNT and will precede the WFL on Sunday mornings this season. Women's Sports Club will air at 1pm right before the premiere of Team ICE where now viewers can watch the baseball game on ICE-TV this afternoon. The rest of the Team ICE schedule later in the day will remain the same. Thursday's daytime schedule will feature a full replay of Team ICE all afternoon until 5pm when ICE's Afterschool Specials returns for its fourth season.
